10/23/2018 0 Comments Wellness tip for October: Apples"An apple a day keeps the doctor away." Research has shown this phrase to be true. Apples are high in soluble fiber, which helps lower cholesterol. They also contain polyphenols, which can lower blood pressure and stroke risk. The pectin in apples acts as a prebiotic which helps feed the good bacteria in the large intestine to protect against obesity, heart disease and type 2 diabetes. Apple skin contains a flavonoid that supports the immune system and contributes to reduced inflammation. So make sure you eat the skin too! This special apple that is from my own apple tree! I hope that you can enjoy eating different varieties of locally grown apples on local farms this fall.
