Sweet Sleep in September:

Picture

Have you ever stayed up late while on vacation or had trouble sleeping when returning from a trip to another time zone?  While sweet summer nights and travel are both delightful, they can also really mess up our circadian rhythm! And we all know how hard it is to function the day after we've had a poor night's sleep.

Research has shown that sleep helps the body repair itself, regulate the blood sugar, optimize the immune system and support healthy brain functioning so we can be healthy physically, cognitively and emotionally!  Unfortunately, many people find they have trouble getting a good night's sleep.  To start with, try to get back into a normal sleeping pattern by going to sleep and waking up at the same time every day.   It can also be helpful to look at how you spend your time in the evening before bed. Things to avoid before bed include: strenuous exercise, screen time, caffeine or alcohol.  Setting up a before-bed-routine can be a healthy alternative to pharmacological solutions.  See the tip of the month for some healthy ways to get some sweet sleep.

Finally, there are still a couple of spots left for the "Treat for the Feet Workshop" on Wednesday September 12th.  Please register by September 10th and see details here.

Wellness tip for September: Sweet Sleep
Your before-bed-routine will include regular hygiene of course, but you can also try some of the following ideas: gentle yoga, Tai Chi, keep your bedroom temperature cool, listening to relaxing music, lavender essential oil, writing in your journal, taking a warm bath, reading a book or even giving and receiving a foot massage with your partner!  For more information about various Reflexology techniques to promote sleep, see the Treat for the Feet Workshop below or speak to your Reflexologist.
